Abstract :At very  high temperature and density matter is expected to be composed of quarks and gluons the building blocks of hadrons and nuclei. In my lecture I will discuss what we know about the properties of this strongly interacting matter. Similar to water, which has a phase transition other than steam, it is expected that strongly interacting matter undergoes a phase transition from hadrons to quarks and gluons. In my lecture, I will discuss these ideas and how one may be able to identify such a phase transition in experiment and present the latest status of this endeavor.
